University of Wollongong – Transnational Crime Prevention

by Radek M. Gadek

You probably won’t believe me, but I am considering taking on my PhD in Australia. Since I am really passionate about organized crime like terrorism, identity theft, and trafficking of humans and drugs, I found one of the best schools in the world to delve into my interests.

University of Wollongong Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention is offering graduate level courses and degrees. This university is ranked among top 200 colleges & universities in the world, and for me, it offers a very specialized degree option; one that is not easily found in United States.

Masters Degree (48 credit points)

  • Full-time 1 year
  • Part-time 2 years

Graduate Certificate (24 credit points)

  • Full-time 6 months
  • Part-time 1 year

Subjects Include:

  • Studies in International Criminal Law (Compulsory)
  • Issues in Comparative Criminal Justice (Compulsory)
  • International Cooperation and Transnational Crime
  • Security Intelligence and policy
  • Transnational Financial Transaction Crime
  • Terrorism and Counter Terrorism
  • International Corporate Crime
  • Cyber Crime
  • Issues in Transnational Organised Crime
  • Financial Investigations
  • Major Research Project
  • Minor Research Project

The graduate degree I would like to pursue is research based and is offered as a PhD at the University of Wollongong. A Master level research option is also available.

A little bit more about the University of Wollongong

Another reason I would love to spend the next three years at this Australian university is its location. Look at the map below. Yes, it’s less than a mile away from the pristine shores of the South Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. On top of that it’s about 2 hours drive from Sydney, Australia.

Hi Radek!
I was searching for a master in transnational crime, and I also found the one in Wollongong. I’m about to finish my degree in Criminology here in Mexico. I’m very happy there’s another person that is looking for universities as well as me. I was trying to find one in Spain, cause I want to study there, but I couldn’t found anyone. Could you please let me know wich universities you looked? Besides the one in Australia.
Maybe you did found one in Spain or another in other country. That would be a lot of help for me.
Thanks =)

Dennia,

When I did my search for colleges and universities world wide I used several websites, but the two that helped the most were:

1. U.S. News
2. The Princeton Review

Both sites offer you an opportunity to research colleges and universities. The U.S. News site helped me search for grad schools worldwide. In their “Education” section they have rankings for the top 200 colleges and universities in the world, as well as, rankings for top grad schools in the US. Hope this helps. Let me know what you have decided.

I would like to keep in touch wih you, and I would let you know what I have decided.
Thanks again, have a nice day.

I’m a current student of the Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention at the University of Wollongong, currently completing my Masters Degree. I’m really pleased to see that there are potential students from around the world recognising that the University of Wollongong’s CTCP courses are world class.

The Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention (CTCP) as of this year relocated into from the main campus to Innovation Campus which was recently named by the Federal Government as a Global Centre of Excellence in its field. The Australian Government provided $12 million to build a CTCP research and training facility and being one of the first students to take classes here, I can confirm that the CTCP is world class in terms of the staffing, lecturers, management, infrastructure, course delivery and research. A pleasant bonus is that the CTCP is on the coast and only an hour and a half drive from Sydney.

For those looking to undertake post graduate studies in the field of Transnational Crime Prevention I recommend the University of Wollongong Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention.

Hi,

I am currently student of Master of Transnational Crime Prevention from Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention, University of wollongong, Australia. This particular course is being offered by UoW only. The course is quite impressive, which gives in-depth knowledge of various issues in transnational organized crime, for example, drugs trafficking, human trafficking, bike gangs. Moreover, International Corporate Crime and International Financial Crime subjects will give sufficient knolwedge to the students to clearly understand, whats going on around the world.

I hope, one who joins this course will be able to understand the menace of transnational organized crime.

Cheers

Hello, I’m Lucky Nruhadiyanto from Indonesia. I’ve Bachelor Degree in Criminology from University of Indonesia. The program is the only one in Indonesia. I’m very interested with this information and hope to follow the achievements you’ve accomplished. Now, I became an assistant research in Department of Criminology and plans to begin my career as a lecturer. I want to continue my study that focus on terrorism and I think University of Wollongong is one of the best in this filed. But i’ve problems about tuition fees. I’ve some questions 1) whether UoW provides scholarships to non-Australian students? 2) whether the UoW has a relationship program with ADS scholarship?

Thank you for the attention,
kind greetings

Hello Lucky,

I was a similar scholar from the University of Wollongong through the AusAID scholarship. I obtained my MTCP degree in July, 2008 and I must say that having the rare opportunity to study at the Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention is a very big boost to my career as a law enforcement officer here in the Philippines. The course is very extensive and you’ll have the opportunity to learn from the best instructors in their respective fields. Good luck on your application and best regards.
