The computer requirements for online classes in Criminal Justice are not stringent by today’s standards, but there are some necessary things that must be done before you begin your online courses. My “rule of thumb” is that if you bought a computer in the last 2 to 3 years you should be covered when it comes to the technical requirements of online education. If your computer is older or prehistoric I recommend upgrading or buying a new one. The latter may be more economical nowadays. But what other requirements are there?
There are other requirements that you will need to meet in order to start your educational quest in criminal justice online. Lets just say you have a fairly decent computer with decent specifications (processor speed, RAM, graphic card memory, and hard drive). Lets say that you are running Windows Vista or Windows XP. If you are a Mac user you should be good with the operating system you already have. There is still more that needs to be done in order to run your online courses:
- Make sure to get rid of viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, adware, and any other malicious code so your computer can run optimally while you complete your certificate or degree courses. Make sure to update your program’s databases to get rid of the latest security threats.
- Then, scan your computer at least twice a month for what is listed in step #1. This will allow for a more secure Internet browsing experience, thus allowing you to properly access your Criminal Justice online course dashboard.
- Update your computer’s other components, like: Windows Update, Java and Flash (allows you to see dynamic content on the Internet), your word processing software (MS Word, etc.), Web browser (Internet Explorer, Fire Fox, etc.), and anything else you can think of. This will allow to close many of the security vulnerabilities. Also, this step will most likely guarantee that you will be in compliance with your school’s computer requirement checklist.
That’s really it. I don’t think it is too complicated to keep up on these tasks. Often, the programs themselves will let you know when an update is available or they will even download & apply it in the background.
Don’t worry about your computer’s hardware specs. As long as you follow my initial advice you will be fine. Online colleges and universities that teach criminal justice are fully aware that not everyone can afford a top of the line computer or that not everyone buys a new computer every year. Therefore, there is not much you have to worry about, especially if you perform the three steps listed above.

Hello, I would like to know what are the requirements for online classes? and how can i apply for these classes?
Thank you,
Lorena Zamora.
Granted you will finish / are finished with high school, you’ll need to choose a college or university for which you would then choose a degree program to study. Next, read up more information on the school’s website and apply to those schools that spark your interest.
