Happy Halloween to All Criminal Justice Online Blog Readers

by Radek M. Gadek

Every year Halloween makes itself known on October 31st. This year is no exception. It is also the time when criminals become law enforcement’s worst nightmare. Robberies, burglaries, rapes, and murders are often highly elevated this very day. This puts a lot of stress on police officers and other enforcement agencies.

I know from experience that Halloween can be extremely stressful on a law enforcement officer. It is a day and night filled with constant uncertainty as trivial costumes and masks may morph into a felony in a blink of an eye. Some of you will be called to egging incidents and toilet paper chandeliers. Some of you may be called to robberies, shootings, and hostage situations. With so many civilians walking the streets you must take extra precautions, as well as expose yourself to potential harm. This day is way different than most others.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks for what you all are doing. Yes, I know it’s your job, but it is more than that. You have a life of your own. Your families are waiting for you at home and your dog Rex is probably missing you by now. Here, at the Criminal Justice Online Blog, I would like to extend my hand to those that need help. Please let me know if there is anything you would like me to address on this Criminal Justice site. I wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween!
