I am really looking forward to visit this college. It sounds like a great school for criminal justice.
I know i have 3 years to find a great college but this one sounds really great. Im looking forward to seeing what college i pick.
this college looks great!!!! I can’t wait!!!
Yes, CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice certainly ROCKS!
Hey Radek, does this college offer this degree online if not, in your opinion is the top online school for those criminal justice because I’m joining the military and have to do my school online. This would be very helpful, thank you.
I’m not too sure. I know that John Jay offers some online courses and maybe a few degree programs, but I don’t remember CJ to be one of them. I would recommend that you check out my Best Criminal Justice Schools in US article to get more info. Half of the schools listed have online programs.
Radek you are 100% correct on your comments, John Jay offers few courses online, I am personally taking one of them right now, but not the entire major at least not CRJ that I know for sure.
It’s the best of the best for criminal justice – look at the faculty.
I just looked at rate my professor.com and it had one of the top ratings of professor I have ever seen.
Hi Radek,
I just got accepted into the Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice program at CUNY John Jay College and was wondering if you knew how accredited this program is?? I am Canadian (from British Columbia) and applied to this school b/c of its location and program, however I’m not too sure how accredited this program is in comparison to the Masters in Criminology at Simon Fraser University (which is highly accredited in Canada). I don’t want to attend this school if it will not benefit me in the long run and if my MA will not be recognized (or as reputable) in comparison to a Criminology MA from a Canadian graduate program. Thanks for any advice you can offer :)
CUNY John Jay College is one of the best schools in the filed of Criminal Justice here in the US. The college is properly accredited, holding regional accreditation; the best you can get. You should check out usnews.com for other ranking particulars and the school’s website for details on programmatic accreditation, which is not required in fields like criminal justice or criminology.
HI Radek,
I’ve been wondering. What are the requirements in entering this college? Knowing that I’m from Indonesia & is currently going to an international school.
CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice has their requirements posted on their website. They may differ from year to year, hence they aren’t posted here.
I go to this school, and there are SO MANY good classes. Not only that but the criminal justice major B.S.(the one I’m in!) actually makes you take classes from other majors (law, police science, corrections, etc.). My professors aren’t at all boring. I can’t wait to hit senior year; the classes seem to just be TOTALLY engaging. Check out their site: http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/academics/630.php
This school looks great & it seems that everyone has something good to say about it .
Rosa, John Jay College is one of the best.
Omg I can’t wait to visit this college.
I studied at JJAY. It’s the best college ever, I’m proud of being part of JJAY.
I graduated from John Jay last year. Keep in mind that this is a public city college, many of the professors are pretty easy on their students. I found that there were only a FEW professors that challenge you and push you, and those professors also give great advice on career moves. I had one professor tell the class that 85% of the students in the school were barely at the high school writing level. Another professor said that John Jay has a great reputation overseas as one of the top criminal justice schools in the world; however, when professors visit, they’re shocked at the way the students present themselves and the way they dressed.
If you do decide to attend, it’s CRUCIAL that you do an internship. It’s not a requirement, but John Jay does offer great internships in various offices and agencies including the Mayor’s office, federal agencies, etc. John Jay also has an exchange professor program with the Scotland yard… take a class with an exchange professor.. you learn a lot.
It is true about professors going easy on students. I am a senior at john jay and it is like everything else in life, professors do notice who is here to learn and who’s not… But once they notice you are part of the group, they will challenge you and push you and they will make sure you leave john jay with the best possible education in the field. they love to see students interested and they will challenge you…
Unfortunately there is a large group of students I personally don’t know why they’re here honestly, I believe the admission office should screen the students a little better…
About the internships you are absolutely correct Mary K, I cannot agree with you more on that, you have to take advantage of the internships they offer here, they are only going to help you in the long run, I’m going to give a little advice to the students that are thinking in applying or are here already as freshmen, the diploma alone is not going to be enough for you to compete for a position within a federal agency without the internships and the study abroad program, everyday is getting more difficult to find a job in the federal government, so you have to do your part and ask yourself, what is going to make me different from the other 1500 applicants with the same diploma as mine and half of them speak at least two different languages…
Believe me when i say this do as many as you can during your career here that is my personal advice anyway… I agree with you 100% Mary K.
how is the social life?
Rick it’s the best……. john jay is located in the heart of NYC you can’t ask for anything better then that truss me I am a senior from john jay……
Thanks to Elisa Dunn, Mary K., and tony for great input on John Jay College and its criminal justice degree program.
If you have had success with John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and would like to share your opinion, please feel free to chime in.
I want to apply to John Jay for September of 2013 but im afraid i will get my degree and no one we will know where i got it. I’ve asked a few of my friends that live in NYC and they’ve never heard of it. I just need to know is John Jay really worth the money, and leaving my city (Boston).
In the world of criminal justice, John Jay is considered to be one of the best.
Does anyone know if this college requires general education classes? I am a junior in high school and this could be a deciding factor for me, thanks.
Nearly all quality colleges and universities offer general education courses. Besides the English and Math classes, courses in humanities and social sciences are offered and are highly recommended.
Gen. Ed. classes often give students perspective and help them become more well-rounded. But that’s another long blog post.
Personally, if I saw a college or university that doesn’t offer general education courses, then I would be inclined to think twice about going to that school.
I would assume CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice will have gen ed courses.
I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!! I’m going to graduate this fall from a community college as a Criminal Justice major with 2.9 or 3.0gpa. Should i transfer to Rutgers or John Jay and get my Bachelors in Criminal Justice (thinking on changing to Forensic Science) ? After i get my BA looking to get a federal job such as DEA, or State/ local police officer.. Which School should i apply!!!!!!!!??? I live in NJ, but got family members that live in NYC…
Hi there, I would really like to apply for either Masters of Arts in Forensic Psychology or Masters of Arts in Forensic Mental Health Counselling, but I still can’t make up my mind! Do you happen to know which Masters programme at John Jay College is more recognised? Or any additional information that might help me make my decision? Thank you so much in advance for your reply.
I checked this school out in November… it’s wonderful. Exceeded my expectations. Anyone looking for a top criminal justice school, here is your place. If I wasn’t out of state I would be there in a heartbeat. The professors are top notch in their fields.
How are scholarships? Is there any way for an out of state student to get instate tuition or get the price down to a more reasonable level? Thanks
I am looking for a good school to get my Doctorate, any suggestions? Does CUNY John Jay College Criminal Justice offer a doctorate?
